Saturn seems stuck at 18 Aquarius 35. He’s been there for a couple days now and will be there a little bit longer as he stations, finally going direct at that degree and minute on 23 October. At that point he stands precisely one degree short of a square to his father, Uranus, now invoking shifts in awareness of the pastoral pastures of Taurus. Saturn pursues, but doesn’t quite achieve invoking the exact square. That’s okay. This is one of those situations in which the planets are well in orb. It counts. It counts a heap.
This is a big dang deal transit that concludes the cycle of a series of Saturn in Aquarius to Uranus in Taurus squares. What does this mean other than fascinations with family trees and all things genealogical, gene therapy and the astrological expectation that the status quo gets blowed up faster than a controversial Twitter post?
Astrologers are quick to point out how this pattern theoretically leads to the breaking down of the old and replacement with those things new. Theoretical because in this sequence of squares the father-son (Uranus to Saturn) combo occurs with both planets in fixed signs. Nobody’s giving up anything easily or kindly.
Sure this is a revolutionary pattern - intending to invoke evolution. The war in Ukraine, the legal issues surround 6 January, conflict within Iran, and the incessant quoting of what the “founding fathers” meant in their writing of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution actually mean, indicates some of the political manifestations. Actually this square means that people will select the point of view that best serves their interests and then dig in for the ultimate in entrenchment. It’s difficult to point out to those hell bent on digging in their heels, that once the surface of the Earth gets scratched open, technically speaking, the realm of Pluto is exposed. That’s a chin-scratching point to ponder.
So even if you’re not directly impacted by the transits to your natal horoscope, many in the world around you, and the world itself, are.
There is a tendency for those calling for the manifestation of the transit to throw the baby out with the bath water. Change to all things new, no matter what. After all, Saturn is in the progressive sign of Aquarius and Uranus, with Saturn co-rules Aquarius. It’s all about advancing all forward, whether they go willingly along with the plan or get dragged kicking and fussing.
What an inconvenient time for this to be happening. As 2022 winds down the holidays crowd into priorities and objectives as intentions for what this year is supposed to be (and yet it can) demand a thorough review and refresh. Now is the time to grist and grind for all the good the year’s got.
What’s a person to do?
Some may claim, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. To a large degree that’s true. Also true is if it’s fixed, don’t break it trying to figure out what makes it work. Simply this transit represents a time in which the tried and true requires an honest assessment of what worked before and does it still work now? Saturn and fixed signs demand that things that work at least nominally and preferably optimally and for the necessary duration to complete all intended tasks. If that’s the mode of system operations in play, then leave those systems alone. If not, seek out new innovations that improve those things noted to benefit from upgrading.
Not all new ideas are great ideas. And some are. Work to consider those newly arrived concepts which are unfamiliar with objectivity and a desire to include all that truly offers improvement or advancement. Such objectivity ensures that one will not be late to the parade. Also, consider the viability and duration of the application. In the past we saw things like eight-track cassettes for our listening pleasure, beta video players for movies and flip phones for communication. Wait, aren’t flip phones becoming a thing again? Aren’t they renewed in their coolness? A flip of a phone is an easy way to make a point!
In Aquarius stand a number of black holes. These singularities instinctively portend what will come to be like an amazingly accurate weather forecaster. Or in terms of marketing, one aligned with these black holes knows if this new thing is truly a thing, or if it’s a fad. In terms of consciousness, the assessment always comes back to “Sure, it makes your feel good for a while, but does it stick? Does it shift you on the inside where your soul yearns for improvement or is it a topical for your ego?
Here’s another factor. Saturn can get caught in “But it doesn’t fix everything... it’s not enough... why do anything at all?” “Nope,” says Uranus. “We’re here to advance and gain ground. And from where I stand in Taurus, I can see that each stone set in place is progress for creating the castle, whether it be a literal castle or one of consciousness. Grab and heap up every fix that works and solidifies the future.”
Here’s yet another thing. Saturn in Aquarius is awkwardly prescient. He knows what must be done. He knows change is coming. He encourages accurate structural assessments of life such that when Uranus shows up with his bucket of nuts and bolts, one knows what hardware to grab and which tool fits. Ultimately, if one does not organically install life improvements as they appear, Uranus forces the hand. That’s when it’s uncomfortable and out of the box rips up all those concepts caught in containers.
A bullet point synopses simplifies the cosmic blueprinting:
Assess all factors in life.
Keep what works and creates contentment and consistently agrees with your operational beliefs.
Note what tones are off key.
Agree to change those tones and the conditions they signal as swiftly as possible.
Establish receptivity to the new, the far-out, the unconventional.
Spend some time analyzing the long term effects of wacky ideas under consideration.
When congruence between far-reaching results agrees with noted and needed changes, make haste. Saturn does like procrastinators or dilly-dalliers. Uranus has no use for intractable souls.
Then, make peace with impending evolution. Touch your nose, click your heels (heals) and evolve!
